Sgt York An American Hero

 

York used his backwoods hunting skills to silence machine gun nests and capture 132 Germans on Oct. 8, 1918, in the Battle of the Argonne Forest in Maxim Machine Gunnorthern France. For this heroic deed, York became the most decorated soldier of the entire war. The York display reveals the man behind the medals: a simple man, true to his word and honest as the day is long. It includes York’s favorite leather jacket, a cash register used by York in his country store, photographs, and other personal items. Special exhibit is Sgt Yorkincluded in regular admission. Visitors with a ticket stub from the January 24 showing of “Sergeant York” at the Tennessee Theatre admitted at half the regular adult admission; children 6-12 free when accompanied by an adult with ticket stub. VIP Reception ticket holders admitted free. Commemorative movie poster and Sergeant York biographies available in the Museum gift shop.
