Sometimes they are tilled with a mule-drawn plow.  Sometimes one of the guys cranks up the electric tiller and makes the lambs go scurrying.  Sometimes the wildflower garden sees a rare hepatica pushing its way up through crowding Virginia bluebells.  Always, our gardens are seasonal, living reminders of how the lives of our ancestors
were tied to the soil.
