Bill Capshaw Raku Pottery Vase

A beautiful Bill Capshaw Raku Pottery Vase.  The style is described as “aluminum foil sagger”. A ferrick chloride solution was poured over the vase, which was then wrapped in two layers of heavy-duty aluminum foil.  The vase was fired to 1275 degrees then cooled.  Horse hair gives some lines in the vase and sugar gives it both black and white dots.  An overcoat design is created using ferrick chloride that was used to etch copper.  The vase is waxed with Renaissance wax.

Sea Glass Pendant

SeaGlass

What is sea glass? Sea glass is a reverse gem. Traditional gems (diamonds, rubies, emeralds) are made by nature, and refined by man. Sea glass is originally made by man (bottles, jars), but refined by nature to become smooth, frosty beach found gems. It could take up over 30 years of tossing and turning In water before the perfect piece of sea glass is made.

This reverse gem was found by Jane Kirk on the Forgotten Coast near Apalachicola/St. George Island, Florida during an early morning beach walk with her dog, Lucy.  Jane, former Marketing Director at the Museum of Appalachia, makes sea glass jewelry out of the beautiful gems from the sea, and sells at small local festivals and farmers markets along the Panhandle of Florida.
